This breed originated from the Pennine, more specifically the town called Penistone. There are records dating back to the 17th century of this breed being traded there. There is reason to suggest the breed is a fairly close relative to the Swaledale and Lonk. They are very good at adapting to their environment, whether this be hills or lowland. They are a large framed sheep who are excellent mothers. They are white head to toe minus a pale pink nose. The rams grow spiralled horns around their ears.
The fleece is soft to touch and very spongy. It is ideal for hand spinning and for yarn. We also find it is easy to dye and work with for small craft projects.
Average Fleece Weight: 2 - 3 KG
Average Staple Length: 4 - 6 Inches
Micron Range: 32 - 33
