Blue Du Maine - RAW
Bleu Du Maine
This breed of sheep, as the name suggests, originates from France. It has been bred predominantly for meat, due to its muscly conformation. But that doesn't take from its amazing wool quality.
They have a particularly striking face, which is noticeably blue! The historic information around the breed is that it was formed by crossing Leicester longwool and a now extinct French breed - Choletais.
Their fleeces are white and it is only on their body, so no hair on the face or legs. It is a soft, feathery, large fleece with a gorgeous crimp. There is a dense, full body to its structure which would bring this breed high up on our recommended wool list for spinners.
Average Fleece Weight: 2.5-4 KG
Average Staple length: 3-5 inches.
Micron Range: 32-34.5
